Nanling National Forest Park is in Shaoguan in Guangdong of China.

Get in[edit]

Take a train to Shaoguan East. On the left of the station square, there is a bus to Nanling National Forest Park. It runs only three times a day 7:45,11:15,15:15; coming back at 7:30,11:,30,15:30, on route through Ruyuan County. The bus ride will take about 2 hours. You can also reach the park by changing bus in Ruyuan. The last few km from the main road to park entrance is easy to hitchhike or go by motorcycle taxi

Fees/Permits[edit]

60rmb entrance fee. Students get half off. Ticket is only valid for one day, if you are staying in Orange House, it then is valid for two.

Get around[edit]

You can negotiate your own vehicle, or hire a taxi. Taxis if taken with you as the only passenger can be as expensive (100 RMB), so any foreigner should use a Chinese person to agree on a price. Drivers will give you a business card and you can call them, or try to flag down a taxi. You can also take a walk on the roads between trekking trails, its nice 3-5 kms walks on almost empty paved roads among spectacular landscape. Also there are minivan taxis waiting at the end of the trails, you can negotiate a reasonable price with them to take you to the next trail or park entrance

Hiking or swimming. There are 3 main hiking paths. These paths are stone with railing and stairs. The trail to the mountain is currently (summer 2012) closed.

Dried mushrooms. The village 1 km before the park entrance has a very interesting local market in the morning. Many people from nearby villages bring vegetables that they grow besides their homes, in small quantity, and that are very tasty

Air-dried sausages, wild mushrooms, local fish and chicken.

Water from the mountain streams.

Orange House. 238rmb for a triple room without a/c, 328rmb for standard room with a/c on weekends. Prices vary depending on time of visit. Just walk straight ahead where bus drops you off, turn right, cross the bridge, you will see Orange House on your left.

Lodging[edit]

There is a inn up the hill immediately before the park entrance. Rooms are rustic yet clean, a peaceful place. Rooms are around 150 RMB. However, the Orange hotel is the only place that will stamp your park admission for an additional day. There are few hotels in the village 1 km before the entrance. Its possible to bargain the price down to 70-80 yuan

Camping in the mountain requires a prearranged permit.

Beware of stray dogs at night.

Ruyuan County. There's an ancient tower downtown, you will see it on the bus.
