Midlothian is in Chesterfield County, Virginia.
“Midlothian” is located in the state of Virginia, west of Richmond and south of the James River in the Richmond-Petersburg region. Rich in history, before the Europeans arrival in the 17th century the land was populated for thousands of years by various Native American Indians. Because of the hilly land the settlers from Europe were unable to grow Tabaco but the land’s natural recourses were soon recognized: its coal. Established over 300 years ago, Midlothian is the first commercially mined coal in the Virginia Colony, which later became the United States. The land was named for the earlier coal mining initiatives of the Wooldridge brothers who came from mining villages in “East Lothian” and “West Lothian” in Edinburgh, Scotland so their new venture became “Mid-Lothian”. Today Midlothian is suburban community that continues to be proud of its history.
