MediaWiki talk:Edittools

From Wikitravel

Jump to: navigation, search

Would anyone be opposed to adding something similar to Wikipedia's Wikipedia:MediaWiki:Edittools? I kind of get tired switching between English, German, and Polish keyboards when the need arises, because it can be quite difficult to revert back to the English keyboard. I think it would benefit other users too.

We don't need everything Wikipedia uses and we could edit it to suit our needs and I have some ideas including automagically loading listing tags. -- Andrew H. (Sapphire) 07:31, 29 November 2006 (EST)

AWESOME. As far as I'm concerned, proceed at will. --Evan 17:10, 29 November 2006 (EST)
Thanks. Proceeding at will. -- Andrew H. (Sapphire) 22:58, 30 November 2006 (EST)
I need to fix a few things. -- Andrew H. (Sapphire) 22:58, 30 November 2006 (EST)
Actually, I have no idea how to fix these problems. When I introduce this to the MediaWiki namespace the tildes show up as my signature and several of the templates actually display rather than just the text giving you the option to load them. Can anyone who can force computers act the way you want them to take a stab at this? I'd appreciate it. -- Andrew H. (Sapphire) 23:32, 30 November 2006 (EST)

[edit] Listings?

What about adding some listings with the recommended fields already in there, like the following? --Evan 16:57, 11 December 2006 (EST)

Attractions: * <see name="" address="" phone="" hours="" price="" url=""></see>
Activities: * <do name="" address="" phone="" hours="" price="" url=""></do>
Restaurants: * <eat name="" address="" phone="" hours="" price="" url=""></eat>
Bars and clubs: * <drink name="" address="" phone="" hours="" price="" url=""></drink>
Hotels: * <sleep name="" address="" phone="" checkin="" checkout="" price="" url=""></sleep>
Other listings: * <listing name="" address="" phone="" hours="" price="" url=""></listing>

WikiWonderful! -- Ricardo (Rmx) 17:02, 11 December 2006 (EST)
Great! I was going to do that, but scratched it after I couldn't figure out why the set wasn't displaying correctly. I've since figure it out. We might even be able to condense the other fields already included. -- Andrew H. (Sapphire) 17:05, 11 December 2006 (EST)

[edit] Bump

Something like this:

[edit] {{status}}

This template doesn't exist... was about to remove it, but just checking that I'm not missing something.... – cacahuate talk 01:47, 1 June 2007 (EDT)

Alright, I removed it... let me know if it had some purpose that I'm overlooking – cacahuate talk 02:11, 7 June 2007 (EDT)

[edit] isIn --> isPartOf

My understanding is that isPartOf is preferred over isIn. There has been some (albeit not much) discussion about updating isIn to work like isPartOf, but in lieu of that I think it make sense to make the preferred template the one to appear in the edit toolbar. Would anyone object to making that update? -- Ryan • (talk) • 01:55, 7 June 2007 (EDT)

I still like IsIn, but I don't use the shortcut here anyway, so I won't complain if you change it. If anyone's interested in the previous conversation about it, see Wikitravel:Travellers'_pub#IsIn_vs_IsPartOfcacahuate talk 02:11, 7 June 2007 (EDT)
I'll hold off until a template emerges victorious from the isIn / isPartOf war. -- Ryan • (talk) • 02:25, 7 June 2007 (EDT)

[edit] Unclosed tags

As an aside, this template is missing a closing </div> tag, a closing </small> tag, and a closing </span> tag for the "characters" section. The site is running a bit slow now so I don't want to make an update and kill the cache, but the next time this template is updated those tags should probably be fixed. -- Ryan • (talk) • 01:59, 7 June 2007 (EDT)

There haven't been any edits on the site for the last fifteen minutes, so I've gone ahead and fixed this, likely killing the cache in the process. -- Ryan • (talk) • 02:25, 7 June 2007 (EDT)

[edit] nowiki tags

There are a set of nowiki tags hidden after a set of noinclude tags on the Wiki markup: line. I have fixed on shared:, but I can't do here because no sysop status. So please someone make them nested like this :

<charinsert><nowiki><nowiki>+</nowiki></nowiki></charinsert>

[edit] Special characters?

The special characters bit of the Edittools box was removed by User:Sapphire a while back. Was there a reason other than the potential copyvio from Wikipedia? I'm not sure you can copyright a list of characters and a span tag... Jpatokal 06:19, 12 July 2007 (EDT)

No, that was the reason... if you don't think it's a copyvio, let's put it back! It's handy – cacahuate talk 03:48, 13 July 2007 (EDT)
