Matterhorn

The Matterhorn (Cervin in french) is a famous mountain in Valais in the swiss Alps. At a height of 4,478 meters it is one the highest summit in the Alps and probably the most remarkable one.
The first ascent was made from Zermatt by Edward Whymper and six other persons in 1865. Four of them died on the way back.
The Matterhorn has a small brother, the Klein Matterhorn situated a few kilometers away. The Klein Matterhorn (3,883 meters) can be reached by cable car from Zermatt, which is the highest in Europe.
