Maricopa rests at the intersection of California Highways 33 and 166. From the west, CA-166 connects Santa Maria and US-101 with Maricopa, about 80 miles of driving. From the east, Maricopa is 23 miles from I-15. From the north, CA-33, also known as the West Side Highway, connects to Maricopa from Taft and Coalinga.
Lakeview Gusher, Petroleum Club Rd between Kerto and Cadet Rds (N of CA-33 for 1.7 miles, turn right on Kerto Rd, left on Petroleum Club Rd for 1/2 mile.). 24 hours. In 1910, the Lakeview Number One oil well suffered a blowout and oil began to gush from the well. It took 6 months to get the gusher under control during which time over 9 million barrels of oil leaked from the well, the largest oil spill in history. Today, the footings of the well and the oil soaked soil can be seen and the site is marked with a historical plaque and comprehensive information board.Free. edit

A pristine wilderness grassland centered on Soda Lake, a dry saltbed most of the year. The infamous San Andreas Fault runs through the valley and can be seen in the geography of the region.edit
