Malappuram [1] is one the northern district of Kerala in Southern India. Mala-puram means Hill Top in malayalam.

Malappuram district consists of six taluks, viz., Ernad, Nilambur, Perinthalmanna, Ponnani, Tirur and Tirurangadi. The Head Quarters City of the district is also known by the name Malappuram. Malappuram consists 5 municipalities such as Malapuram, Ponnani, Perinthalmanna, Tirur & Manjeri. In this Malapuram & Manjeri are comprised in Ernad taluk. The district has the most number of Panchayats in Kerala-100.

- An International Airport is there at Karipur in MALAPURAM, which is just 25 km away from City.
- you can also come to Kochi International Airport or Thiruvananthapuram air port with direct flights from the Middle East, Singapore, Maldives and Sri Lanka then catch train or bus to Malapuram.
- Alternatively reach Chennai (Madras), Bangalore, Mumbai (Bombay), New Delhi, or other Indian cities and then by train.

Malappuram is well connected and serviced by rail to all major cities in India like Kozhikode, Mangalore, Cochin, Thiruvananthapuram, Bangalore, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata. Nearest Railway Station is Angadipuram which is 17 kms from the city. Another on Tirur is just 25 kms away. Few trains stop at Tirur, Kuttipuram, Angadipuram, Nilambur stations but for others you would have to get down at Kozhikode or Palakkad which are 50Kms and 90 Kms respectively by road from Malapuram city.

You can also reach here by bus from big cities like Kozhikode, Mangalore, Kochi, Bangalore, Thiruvananthapuram, Chennai, Mumbai, Coimbatore. Malapuram have a KSRTC Depot at Up-Hill Jn. for Govt. buses. Private bus Terminal is located on Ahmed Kurikkal Road, Down hill.

Malappuram is well connected to other cities like Kochi, Kozhikode, Chennai, Bangalore, Coimbatore by road. Take a TT (Town-to-Town) KSRTC from Kozhikode or Palakkad for faster travel. National Highway-213(Coimbatore-Mangalore) connects the city to other Indian cities. Also National Highway-17 passes through Changuvetty in Malapuram which is just a 13 kms from city.

- Bus - local bus service system is cheap. Both Govt. and private buses are plying on Malapuram streets.
- Autorickshaw - This is cheap way of transportation facility between attractions.
- Taxi - Local taxis are also available at cheap rates.
- Car - There are many Car rental companies offering cars with drivers or self drive.
- Walk - Many places of attractions are near by other so you could walk between them.
- Train- A train ride from Angadipuram to Nilambur can be breathtaking.

Kotakunnu(Fort Hill in English) Fort Hill is famous for Vettakkorumakan Temple and the Siva temple with murals of Malabar and an old fort built by the Samoothiris (Zamorins) of Kozhikode.One can find the traces of a fort in this old Cantonment Hill.It was the fort of Malapuram British Troops. Now this is a main tourist attraction in Malabar called as Marine Drive of Malapuram . There is a water theme/amusement park on the valley of Kotakunnu. Also there are 3 Heliports on the top of Fort Hill.

A place rich with history now headquarters of Ernad Taluk. It is a commercial town of Malappuram district.

A trading centre in hill products, Teak Museum and Teak plantations is 35 kms from Malapuram city is situated on the Kozhikode-Ootty highway. World's one and only Teak Museum is situated at Karimpuzha near here. Also World's oldest teak tree is in Nilambur forests in Malapuram.

A beach resort (NC Gardens & Beach Resort)set in the middle of a coconut groves is the main attraction here. The Kadalundi bird sanctuary is just a short distance away. - Angadipuram - famous for temples Thirumandham Kunnu and Tali. Situated 17 km east of Malapuram Town on Mangalore-Madras Trunk road.
- Biyyam Kayal - waterway with a water sports facility, near to Ponnani
- Kadalundi Bird Sanctuary - sanctuary spread over a cluster of islands in Kadalundipuzha (river), it is 7 km from Beypore port or 19 km from Kozhikode city.
- Kadampuzha - famous for Bhagavathi temple established by Jagadguru Adi Sankaracharya, in Melmuri village, Tirur taluk. Situated at 3 Km north of Vettichira on NH-17 (Kochi-Goa) and 25 kms from District Capital City.
- Keraladheeswarapuram temple - one among the oldest temple in Keralam, it is 3 km south of Tanur.
- Kodikuthimala - panoramic views of scenic hilltop, it is near Perinthalmanna

- Padinharekara beach - confluence of the Bharatha Puzha (River Bharatha), the Tirur Puzha (River Tirur) and the Arabian Sea.
- Pazhayangadi Mosque, Kondotti - Muslims pilgrim centre, 21km east of Malapuram Town on the way to Karipur Airport.
- Tanur - earliest Portuguese settlements, situated 8 km from Tirur.
- Thirunavaya - famous for temple on the banks of the Bharathapuzha, and old venue of Mamankam festival.
- Tirurangadi - famous for Tirurangadi incident on 20th August, 1921, which was the out break of the Mappila Rebellion.
- Trikandiyur - famous ancient Shiva temple, legend say the temple idol have been installed by Parasurama the mythological creator of Keralam.
- Valiya Juma Masjid Malapuram - This is an important pilgrim centre of the Muslims of Kerala.
Malapuram Shaheeds of 1921 are buried here.
- Wagon Tragedy Memorial Municipal Town Hall - A standing monument reminiscent of the notorious Wagon Tragedy during the British rule.
