Maio is an island in Cape Verde. Vila do Maio, or just Vila, is the primary city on the island. It is the home to the island's airport and seaport.

There are flights from Praia, the capital city, several times per week, but these flights are currently (as of October 2007) unavailable due to repairs on the Maio airport runway. TACV Cabo Verde Airlines has an office in Vila do Maio.

There are buses that circle the island on the single cobblestone road. Hitchhiking is also a common, well-accepted means of transportation. Most inhabitants appear to simply walk, hitching when possible.
