Lourmarin is a small pretty village with more than 1000 years of history. It has an elegant chateau and narrow winding streets which are often quiet, except for the Friday morning market which seems to bring everyone to town. The summer market is busy and chic, probably one of the best locally. Several good restaurants and hotels in this picturesque area have drawn well known figures like the film producer Ridley Scott and best selling author Peter Mayle ( who wrote 'A year in Provence' locally) to have property here. At the base of the Luberon mountains it is sheltered from the Mistral which can blow in the cooler months and the area has a pleasant micro climate.
