South East London is the eastern part of Greater London that lies south of the River Thames and extends from the borders of central London towards the Kent countryside.

The areas of South East London of greatest interest to the traveller are as follows:

• Greenwich - includes Maritime Greenwich on the UNESCO World Heritage List. The Cutty Sark, National Maritime Museum, prime meridian and the Royal Observatory.
• Dulwich
• Croydon
• Lewisham
• Bromley
• New Cross - home to Goldsmiths College, and a vibrant music and arts scene.

• Penge - near Crystal Palace, the Danish word for money, and near the former Great North Wood. The ancient Celtic word, "penceat," meant, "edge of wood". This is how Penge got its name. In Victorian times it was fashionable to live in this area. Today it is, "a nice cosy little place".

• DLR (Docklands Light Railway) from Bank (Central, Northern, Circle, District, Waterloo and City Lines), Tower Hill (District and Circle Lines), Stratford (Central, Jubilee Lines), or Canary Wharf (Jubilee Line).
• By National Rail [1]. There are many National Rail stations in South East London, for example East Croydon, Greenwich, Penge East and Penge West.
