  • Holborn Station, on the Central Line and the Piccadilly Line is at the junction of High Holborn and Kingsway.

  • Look out for Blue Plaques of Sir John Barbirolli above a pub in Southampton Row.
  • In Gray's Inn Road, visit the attractive grounds and Gray's Inns of Court.
  • St George's Gardens are peaceful and have interesting monuments including the daughter of Richard Cromwell, son of Oliver Cromwell.
  • In High Holborn see the rare range of Tudor half-timbered buildings while opposite is a magnificent marble courtyard building which stands on the site of the former Staple Inn. One of Charles Dickens's homes was on the site.

  • Visit the Charles Dickens museum in Doughty Street.
  • When visiting The Russell Hotel in Russell Square, try to see the magnificent ballroom which was designed by the same people who created interiors for RMS Titanic.
  • Leather Lane market is worth a visit for some great cheap finds.
  • Hatton Garden is a street of jeweller's shops.
  • Visit the art film cinema in Brunswick Square.
  • Cartoon Gallery and Museum in Brunswick Square.
  • Peaceful gardens at Queen Anne Square.

  • Magic tricks from a shop in Clerkenwell Road, close to the turning into Leather Lane Market.
  • The famous A-Z atlas company has a shop in the lower half of Gray's Inn Road (opposite the Inns).
  • Brunswick Square has a range of shops and a Cartoon Museum.

  • Cantina Augusto in Clerkenwell Road near the turning into Leather Lane is an attractive Italian Restaurant.
  • The Blue Lion in Gray's Inn Road (opposite the ITN building) offers good food in an easy pub atmosphere.

  • The Water Rats pub in Gray's Inn Road (upper part near King's Cross) has regular live bands.

For a very upscale experience, try the Renaissance Chancery Court London, which is actually a Marriott hotel. It is in an older building that has been beautifully renovated(formerly HQ of Pearl Assurance) There is high-speed internet, but the charge has been 15 pounds per day. The hotel is air-conditioned. The hotel is within walking distance of lots of attractions, including the theatre district. The staff are extremely helpful. A great experience, if you can pay the rates.
