Leenane

Leenane is an idyllic and pretty Irish village situated on the edge of a fjord (The Killary) in Connemara in the Ireland. It was chosen as the location to film the screen adaption of John B Keanes "The Field". It has a couple of small pubs, which are packed with locals most of the time, and a few small restaurants too. It also is the site of a "Heritage Centre", which offers local arts and crafts, and a bit of history too.

- Maam Valley - the ancient woods give the place a magical feel, overshadowed by the Maamturk Mountains with their numerous pre-historic and early historic sites.

The well know walk Western Way goes through Leenane. This walk starts in Oughterard and winds its way through Connemara and into Westport in County Mayo.

Must try the Blackberry Cafe for a reasonably priced, home-cooked thoroughly delicious meal in a refreshingly welcoming and friendly atmosphere.

Enjoy a savage pint and a bit of craic beside the open fire in Hamiltons Bar. Joe Kane's in Maam is also very popular for tourists and locals alike.

The convent B&B is well priced and has some of the most fantastic views of Killary harbour. Worth staying here especially for the experience of having breakfast served in the converted chapel of the old convent with the sun shining through the stained glass windows .
