Lanai is a island in Hawaii.

The only city on Lanai is Lanai City. For the most part, if one needs something, Lanai City is the only place they will find it.

Understand[edit]

Get in[edit]

By Plane[edit]

Lanai Airport is the only airport on the island. Island Air, Mokulele Airlines, and 'Ohana are currently the only airlines flying to the island. Flights depart from Honolulu, Kahului, Kapalua, and Molokai.

By Boat[edit]

The Maui-Lanai Ferry currently operates five round trips daily between Lahaina and Manele Harbor. Tickets are $30 each way for adults, and $20 each way for children. Please note that this is a passenger only ferry, and does not carry cars. Manele Harbor is also located about 7 miles from downtown Lanai City.

Get around[edit]

By Bus[edit]

There is no public transportation service on Lanai. However, Four Seasons Lanai runs a shuttle between Lanai City, the airport, the Four Seasons hotel, and the harbor. You will need to pay a one-time fee of about $50 to ride, but you will get unlimited rides. You can also get a day pass for $10 at the airport.

By Car[edit]

Currently, the only car rental place on the island is Dollar Rent a Car in Lanai City. While they do rent minivans, and jeep is recommended because most of the island's scenic roads are unpaved. Jeeps are $139 per day plus tax.

The scenic Munro and Naha trails travel through the mountains and around the island. The scenic Kaumapalau Highway and Manele Road (highway 440) travels from Kaumapalau Harbor, past the airport, into Lanai City, and south to Manele Harbor. Dole Park in downtown Lanai City is a great place to relax, and it includes a small playground for the kids.

Beaches[edit]

The most popular beach on Lanai is Hulupoe Beach at Four Seasons. However, if you want to be somewhere more quiet, Shipwreck Beach near the northern end of the island is the place to be.

Golf[edit]

There are currently two eighteen-hole courses on the island, Koele Golf Course in Lanai City and Manele Golf Course at Manele Bay. Both are owned by Four Seasons.

Stay safe[edit]

Crime is usually not an issue on Lanai due to the small population, but that still doesn't mean that it is not a good idea to be watchful. There is only one gas station on the island and it is located in Lanai City, so make sure that enough gas is available. Lanai may be a small island, but places routes such as the Munro trail have limited access and take a long time to traverse.
