Kuji is a city in Iwate.
The city was founded on November 3, 1954 and has an estimated population of 37,000. Very close to the Iwate/Aomori border - Kuji is surrounded by vivid landscapes and is one of the most isolated cities on Honshu. Kuji is known for it's amber production and as the most northenly place for Ama diver women in Japan.
By Train There is no shinkansen directly to Kuji. Local trains can be taken from Hachinohe in the north - though this can take over three hours. Because of the Tohoku Earthquake in 2011, there is no direct train route from the south to Kuji.
