Beside Penang and Kuala Perlis it is a major port to the island of the legends, "Langkawi". From early morning on there are ferries leaving at least every hour, the last service is at 7.30 pm. If you are able to make a picture like you see on the right, you missed it and you have to stay over night in Alor Setar, because there are no hotels in Kuala Kedah.

The fare for a one way ticket to Langkawi is RM 23.

Kuala Kedah Jetty Terminal Arriving here from Langkawi, you can take taxis in all directions. The taxi fare to Butterworth (Penang) is RM 47.With a bit of luck, you can share a taxi with other passengers.

The cheapest way to move on from here, apart from walking, is the city bus. Go to the main road opposite the harbor building. Pass the big parking lot on the right. On the corner in front of the coffee shop the bus will stop. It is RM 1 to Alor Setar, where express buses are leaving in all directions.
