Krui is the principal port on the virginal west coast of the Lampung Province in Indonesia. While the town itself is rather rough and unattractive, there are vast gorgeous white sand beaches stretching for miles and kilometers and miles to the north and south.
Susi Air run a flight service connecting Krui to Bandar Lampung. The flight departs Bandar Lampung at 9:00am on Thursdays, lands in Krui and then continues to Bengkulu. Flight duration between Krui and Bandar Lampung is 40 minutes. The cost is Rp 400,000 for a one way ticket. You are granted a 10kg checked baggage allowance (including surfboards), however, if your checked baggage exceeds 10kg it costs Rp 10,000 for every extra 1 kg.
If you are originating in Jakarta, take an early flight from Jakarta to Bandar Lampung on Thursday. Lion Air, Sriwijaya and Garuda Indonesia all fly this route. The minimum cost for a one way ticket is Rp 400,000. The flight duration is roughly 40 minutes.
A visit to Bukit Barisan Selatan National Park, or surfing at Karang Nyimbor, Tanjung Setia, is highly recommended.
At the time of writing, Krui town and the surrounding areas do not have any bars or nightclubs to speak of. There is an Alfamart convenience store along the main road south of Krui town, which stocks the usual minmart fare including a few varieties of beer (Bintang, Heineken, Tiger).
Accommodation is relatively undeveloped in this remote region of Lampung Province, and few people are fluent in English. In 2016 there are many surf camps developed around Krui with many surfers looking to escape from the crowds in other Indonesian surfing destinations.
