Get in[edit]

An interesting - though slow - way to get to Korça from Tirana is to take the train. From Pogradec to Korce, it is a short trip by "furgon". The train leaves at 06:00 from Tiranë. Because the train makes a big detour via Durrës, it arrives no less than four hours later at Elbasan, about 35 km from Tiranë, so it should be possible to make a shortcut. The price is very favorable (350 lek, about € 2.5). The second hand German carriages are OK, though for some unclear reasons, the windows are damaged. The scenery is beautiful, and until October it is possible to have the window wide open.

Another way to get to Korçë from Tirana is to take the vans or the buses. They are more expensive than the trains, about 600 lek or € 4, but it's a faster way to go to Korça. Private cars are also usually available at the intersections and bus terminals (1000 lek for the trip from Korçë to Tirana in a clean Mercedes Benz saloon car, 2-3 other passengers 9/2017).

Along your trip to Korça, you might stop in some restaurants, where you can find some of the traditional Albanian dishes. Lots of appealing farmers markets as well.

Get around[edit]

Several miles from the Greek border, this city is Albania's cultural capital. It is full of life during the summer when you can find couples and families strolling through the city's main park, Parku Rinia. You can hike to the top of the beautiful mountain Moravia and view the city and its surrounding landscape.

The city is small and very walkable, there's a tendency toward vertical construction rather than horizontal. There are several car rental agencies, there's a city bus service, and it's pretty easy to find a good guy taxi driver. There's a municipal cycling program (please add info if you're aware of bike rentals, public or private). Very little traffic congestion, but some maniacal drivers, so remain alert when in the roadways.
