Attractions in the region are the Lüneburger Heide , the famous Otterzentrum  in Hankensbüttel , the Phaeno and Autostadt in Wolfsburg, the historic old towns of Celle and Lüneburg as well as the Museumsdorf Hösseringen .
Don't ever mention Wittingen, the "city" which incorporated the territories of the former "Samtgemeinde Knesebeck" in 1974. The only reason for Wittingen's existence, you may say, is its purpose of serving as the region's most important beer supplier.
