Kirkwood is a city in Missouri.
Founded in 1853 it is located slight southwest of Saint Louis city. Connection to interstate 44, interstate 55 and highway 270 are accessible around the outer portions.
If you make it out of the city and find yourself within Kirkwood one of the best places to see is the newly developed downtown area. Here you can find local shops and restaurants. Also located downtown are Kirkwood City Hall and Kirkwoods historic amtrak station.
But downtown Kirkwood only shows you half of this wonderful place. Not far you will be able to find Kirkwood city park where every year, during the month of September, the Greetree Festival is under taken. At this festival are live band, arts and crafts, shops selling hand crafted item, and many games and fun for kids. A staple of the festival is the addition of Folk Life which features folk crafts, foods, and displays showing what life was like nearly 250 years ago.
Although most of Kirkwood is quite safe, the Meacham Park neighborhood (the area between I-44, Kirkwood Road and Big Bend Road) should be avoided after dark. Meacham Park recently had a number of shootings.
