Kimberley is a city in the Notrhern Cape Province of South Africa. It is famous for the Big Hole, a very deep hole that was created when hundreds of people searched for diamonds in the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th century.

The N12 runs from here to Cape Town and Johannesburg.

The city is served by Kimberley Airport [1] and flights to South Africa's major cities are available with South African Airways.

The train station is on the corner of De Beers road and Florence street, on the east side of the city centre.
Spoornet operates regular inter-city trains to Cape Town, Johannesburg, Bloemfontein, Pietermaritzburg, Durban and Mafikeng. You can also get to Port Elizabeth, Grahamstown and East London by changing trains in Bloemfontein.

Around the Big Hole is the Diamond Museum, which boast the old settlers village, some show rooms with old machines and a shop, where you can buy diamonds at prime rates.
Kimberley is home to some world-famous diamond companies, like De Beers, and diamonds are sorted out and categorized in Kimberley.
Birdwatchers will be interested to know that a new bird breeding island has been build in the Kamferdam. The island is now home to more than 10 thousand flamingoes.

- Go to Bloemfontein, South Africa's judicial capital.
- Go north to Upington (follow N12 westwards until it crosses the N10 to Upington) and from there to the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park.
