Jamestown is the capital and main town of Saint Helena. It is located in a narrow valley between steep 500 ft (150 m) cliffs.

There is pretty much only a single road about one mile long.

- Jacob's Ladder was built in 1829 with 699 steps to help Jamestown haul ammunition up to the post on Ladder Hill, and is still in use today. It is over 900 feet long and has a vertical drop of about 600 ft ( m) with a slope in places of about 45 degrees. Tourists come from all over the world each year to a "run".
- Broadway House is an 18th century building that contains the island's museum (open M-F 8:30AM-4PM).

- Anne's Place, Castle Gardens. Tuna is the main fish of the island, and Anne is famous for her fish cakes, another island specialty.
- The Coffee Shop located in the Leisure Park just outside the city gates is a great place to sit at a picnic table and enjoy a latte and some cake.
- Cyril's Fast Food is just next to the arch in the city walls.
- Orange Tree Oriental Restaurant is located in Association House
- Sally's Sandwich Bar is in the basement of Association House.
