The city of Jaén is the capital of the Jaén Province in the Cajamarca Region of Peru. At an altitude of 740 meters above sea level it is considered part of the high jungle region of Peru. It has a warm and humid climate. Temperatures fluctuate between 15 and 33 degrees Celsius.
The road north to Ecuadorian town Vilcabamba, via Zumba, is under major construction. It is only 3 meters wide in some places with many unmarked drops of hundreds of meters as of March 2014. The road to Chachapoyas is in great condition and beautiful to see.
