Ixelles-Elsene is a large district in the South of Brussels spreading from newly gentrified immigrant neighbourhoods off the Chausee D'Ixelles near the town centre to leafy suburbs close to the Bois de la Cambre. The district is split in two by Avenue Louise, which is technically part of the Bruxelles-Brussels district of the city.

The Chaussée d'Ixelles has a range of high street shops. If you explore the side streets you might find independent shops with more character (ethnic food, second hand books and records...)

• L'Ultime Atome: Increasingly chic, but still just about affordable brasserie, serving tasty food and drink from breakfast till late. Place St Boniface (off the Chausée d'Ixelles).
• Mano a Mano: Italian restaurant on Place St. Boniface; Good food, not too expensive.
• L'Amour Fou: Similar to above located on place Fernand Coq.
• Dolma: Buddhist cafe/wholefood shop on Chausée d'Ixelles (It is on the right hand side, just before Place Flagey, on your way out of town).
• Yamato: Small ramen shop. Considered one of the best in Europe.
• Les Brassins: Belgian-French cuisine, tasty and a real bargain
• Le Livre Jaune (Chez Rachid): at Rue du Bailli 51 (Phone: 02.648.67.30), is a small mahgrib restaurant, serving tunesian / maroccan food. It has a very warm and welcoming athmosphere and Rachid and his wife do the cooking themselves. The food is excellent (avg. price €30)!
