Important cities, towns and villages for each level (from UK-wide to county level)
UK rail network, with colour coded lines for the different operator, separated into major and minor routes.
Major and minor ferry routes
UK Motorway network
Major UK airports

The svg file is best edited using Inkscape, as the various levels of detail are kept separate in layers which (as far as I know) other programs can't handle.
