The Honghe prefecture, located in Yunnan Province, literally translates into the "Red River" prefecture. The prefecture does, in fact, straddle the river and while the north of Honghe is generally warm and arid, the south is generally tropical and green. No matter where you are within the prefecture, however, you can rely on some fantastic mountains ranges or hilly terrain. Honghe Hani and Yi Autonomous Prefecture borders Kunming Prefecture to the north, Qujing Prefecture to the northeast, Wenshan Zhuang and Miao Autonomous Prefecture to the east, Vietnam to the south, Simao Prefecture to the west and Yuxi Prefecture to the northwest.
