Holbrook (New South Wales)

Holbrook is a service town on the Hume Highway in Souther [[New South Wales] best known for the decommissioned submarine that stands next to the highway in the centre of the town.

The Hume Highway between Sydney and Melbourne passes straight through Holbrook, roughly half way between the two. The town is now bypassed yet so it provides, along with Tarcutta, a stopping possibility without taking a leaving the highway, or stopping at highway services.

The submarine. You walk on it, have a barbecue, or have coffee at cafe next to it. There are some interpretive signs. Admission is free, and is a good alternative stopping place to the bland fast food restaurants or highway services.
