Hövsgöl is a province in Northern Mongolia.

Hövsgöl is freezing cold in the winter, hot and full of mosquitoes in summer. Best time to go is late spring or early fall. Temperatures vary significantly from day to night, warm clothes are mandatory.

Also, reportedly, one of the most beautiful places in the world. It is inhabited by the reindeer people, who live in teepees, ride reindeer, and live from their reindeer herds.

MIAT flies from Mörön and Ulaanbaatar to Khatgal in the summertime.

There are several busses that go from Mörön (aimak-center) to the lake (esp. Khatgal - a little city in the southern shore of the lake).

There is bus service between Ulaanbaatar and Moron. Also Micro-bus service. Both are crowded and take about 18 - 20 hours.

Many travellers arrive overland in a hired 4WD. Most accommodation places in Ulaan Baatar can arrange a vehicle and driver. It is about 600 km, and takes approximately 2 solid days of driving through incredible landscapes.

There is a trail going around the lake (the western shore is more beautiful). There is also the possibility to rent some horses or make a tour to the reindeer people mentioned below. Another option is to hire kayaks from a few of the guest houses. When the wind is light, it is a very pleasant row up to the some of the campsites further up the lake shore.

And Khuvsgul lake is the best of tourist sites Mongolia has to offer to adventurous naturalists. Khuvsgul is largest fresh water lake of Mongolia, located in Northern part of the country. It is believed that Khvsgul Lake contains two thirds of Mongolia's fresh water.

Khuvsgul, is the top of all Mongolia attractions. It covers 2,760 square kilometers in surface, 136 km long and 36 km wide, and 262 meters deep. It is the second largest lake in Mongolia after Uvs which locates in western Mongolia. The waters are full of fish and surrounded by high mountains covered with forests inhabited by wild animals such as bears, sables, moose, ibex and wild sheep. These forests make home for domesticated yaks and reindeers along with the people of Darkhad, Buriat and Tsaatan.

You can fish and swim but the water is very cold. In the middle of July, when it is the highest temperature of the year, at 30-35 above Celsius the water water is still icy cold. Nobody dares to jump to get refreshed after being heated by scorching sun.

Hiking is non-negotiable must do. It will take your breath away with awesome sceneries and fresh air. You are going to love it. Horseback trekking is the alternative choice for those who are a bit lazy and tired but do not want to miss the beauty of the nature and fresh air not to mention the opportunities to meet the local people and their well preserved culture and lifestyle.

In Hövsgöl you can see the people who live in taiga. They live without electricity and live like ancient people. In Khatgal many local restaurants with Mongolian meals.They calling it guanz..You can eat their mostly Mongolian meals..Also tourist camps provide a food with European menu..At Nature's Door camp you can have pizza,European and English breakfast,ChilliBurito etc.. Also Bonda Lake Ger Camp provide Mongolian meals some European like pizza,spaghety,tomatoe soup etc..with goodprise during summer time.

Most of the camps in Khovsgol has security. Ger camps in Khatgal located very close to Police Like Garage-24,Bonda Lake,MS..It's main 3 official ger camps in Khatgal with cool service.They are working with agreement toimprove work with protection of Nature,improve life and equcation of Nomad's,Guides.Every year they pay tax for Nature environment,Equcation etc.. If you take service from other eligle guest houses it means you are not supporting locals .Like Hatgal guest house,Sunway guest house ,Norhtern gate,Khatgal ger camp,Munkh tour etc..wchich very close to each other and many domestic tourists arrives.And not safety.
