Gadag the disrict place in Karnataka, the official language is Kannada. However, most educated people are also able to speak Hindi and English.

A very basic use of kannada may be necessary to harangue with autorikshaw drivers. As there is graet population of Somvansha Sahsrajun Kshatryas(called as Pategars locally) in Gadag,there is a pategar language in force among these communities.
