Gătaia is a town in Timis County, Banat, Romania.

Gătaia, together with the five villages belonging to the town,are located in the south-west of Romania.It is located on the national road DN58 linking Timisoara with Resita(Caraș-Severin County), at 52 km away from Timisoara and 47 km away from Resita.

  • Sumigu (Șumigu). is an extinct volcano (altitude 200 meters) in Banat, near Gătaia, Timis County.  edit
  • Saraca Monastery (Mănăstirea Săraca). It is located in the middle plain of Banat, in the area Semlacul Mic, Gătaia, 67 km south of Timisoara. The exact date of the foundation is not known, the first official document dates back to the year 1270.Franciscan sources from the 15th century, state that the monastery was a "nursery of schismatics", center of resistance against the attempts of Catholicism of the Christians in Banat .  edit
