Fossil is a town in Eastern Oregon.

Fossil has a population of 473 as of 2010 and is the seat of Wheeler County.
The site of only public fossil field in the U.S., the town was named by its first mayor, due to the fossil remains he found on his ranch.

- Thomas Benton Hoover House, 1st St (between Adams St and Washington St). On the National Register of Historic Places, this wooden two-storey building dates back to 1882. It was the original owner of this house, Thomas Benton Hoover, who gave the town its name because of the fossils he found on his property. edit
