Flaxmere is in Hastings (New Zealand).
[edit] Understand
Flaxmere is a district of Hastings City. It has a population of about 4500 mainly Maori residents. It was originally intended as a upper-class housing development so Hastings could continue to grow without damaging the valuable horticultural land of the Heretaunga Plains, although it is still technically built on the Heretaunga Plains. Because of this Flaxmere is built on poor soil, and not much grows there. It has the strange feeling of being in some dried area of Africa. The housing turned into high density housing, and therefore low income housing. In recent times the value of the poor soil that Flaxmere is built on has become recognized meaning that many houses have been brought, demolished and turned into vineyards. These vineyards produce some of the best wine in the world.

[edit][add listing] Drink
Being part of Hastings means that, despite its status, Flaxmere must inhere4ntly have its quota of winery's. Although many of these claim to be in places that are not Flaxmere, Flaxmere is, geographically, the nearest significant suburb, and is easy to find on a map. Its the natural way of things for any place on the Heretaunga Plains to have some winery's, so naturally Flaxmere has its own too. As per usual for anywhere in Hastings all are excellent places to Eat and Drink. All of the hours presented here are cellar door hours (eg when one can look around and purchase) restaurant hours are probably different, best to check

[edit][add listing] Sleep
Flaxmere, being so close to the main urban centre of Hastings (New Zealand) doesn't need, nor have all that much accommodation. Anyway its generally considered a bad idea to stay over-night in Flaxmere. Flaxmeres status as a 'dont go there after dusk' status also means that people only visit for day trips, while staying in Hastings. Despite this there is still accommodation.
