For the Federal District of Brazil see Distrito Federal (Brazil)

The Federal District (Spanish: Distrito Federal or D.F.) is the federally-administered area (that is, not part of any Mexican state) in which Mexico City is located. The capital megalopolis covers much (but not all) of the D.F., which includes some rural territory in its south. It is mostly surrounded by the state of Mexico.
