Far North is a district of Northland on the North Island of New Zealand.
[edit] Regions
Politically the Far North is divided into three parts, the Western Ward, the Eastern Ward and the Far Far North. It is administered by the Far North District Council. FNDC Geographically it has many regions stemming from the old political system before the amalgamation of the Far North took place. Locals mostly still use the old terms which are also much more meaningful for tourism. The main areas are Hokianga, Far Far North and Bay of Islands. 75% of the still standing Kauri trees are in the Far North. The Northland region has adopted it as one of their prime icons for tourism.
