Făgăraş is a town in Transylvania.

Făgăraş, a town of about 35.000 people located half way between Braşov and Sibiu, is known mainly for its medieval fortress and relative proximity to the spectacular Southern Carpathian mountains.

As Făgăraş is on the main road between Braşov and Sibiu it is reached by very frequent buses from both of them (travel time one hour-one hour and half). A few buses from Sighişoara (two and a half hours away) also exist. Some schedules are available on autogari.ro [1]

Făgăraş is reached by five-six commuter trains daily from Braşov (travel time of around one hour 40 minutes). Timetables can be found on rail operator's CFR website [2]

- Cetatea Făgăraşului (Făgăraş fortress), Piaţa Mihai Viteazul nr. 1 (near downtown), ☎ +40268 211862 (muzeufagaras@yahoo.com). June to September Tu-Fr 8AM-6PM, Sa-Su 8AM-4PM; October to May Tu-Su 8AM-6PM. A major medieval fortress built in the 14th century (later one of the palaces of the Transylvanian princes) with a surprisingly well preserved initial structure. It also houses a museum with history, ethnography and art collections 5 lei adults, 2 lei children, 10 lei guided tours. edit
- Biserica Sfântul Nicolae (Saint Nicholas Church), strada Tudor Vladimirescu nr. 16, ☎ +40268 281125. A Orthodox church built in 1697-1698 in the famous Brâncovenesc architectural style. edit
