KaZantip [[1]] is an electronic dance music festival held every year on the Crimean peninsula in Ukraine and the main reason fo tourists to arrive to the area. The entrance ticket is called a "viZa". It takes place during 25.7-26.8 in the year 2009 More than 150,000 "paradiZers" visit each year. There is a cult of orange colored fashion and yellow suitcases associated with the festival.

With over 300 DJs on more than 14 dance floors which play 21 hours per day, it is easily the biggest happening on the electronic music scene in the world, shunning even the notorious fullmoon festivals held every month in Koh-pang Nga in Thailand.

The scale of the party is so immense that the nearby town of popovka (where the festival is actually located, some 15-minute drive from Evpatoria) basically earns its living out of it, not surprising since the amount of ravers (or "paradiZers") supercedes the local population by a factor anywhere between 100 and 500)

For paradiZers, probably the best option of accomodation is the chill-out lounge/hotel located also in Popovka at solnechnaya 25.

The two-story building is, as pretty much anything else in Popovka is made out of "rakushniak", beige in color, ecologically sound material resembling coral somewhat.

Literally cut out of the earth, the chunks of rakushniak are basically very compressed and robust slates of chalk dug out from the ancient seabed of the black sea.

The imaginative use of black sea reed as an utilitarian and ornamental element helps quests to relax even some more, as it brings an exquisite touch of south- and south-east asian feeling.

The overall feeling of the place, multinational and multi-lingual staff including, redefine the meaning of "laid-back", are immensely friendly and welcoming, including a top chef from St.Petersburgs Penabar serving an impressive and mostly vegetarian (Starting from 4USD) menu (though meat-lovers will not be dissappointed) with wide range of possibilities, saslik or a local steak for 7USD/55UAH/220RUB (or about 5EUR), drinks and coctails for 7USD and up, good with a refreshing side-order of sushi (7-8USD), made from local fish, with vegetarian rolls also obviously available.

local (and if in luck, russian a-list DJ's) DJ's contibute to the overall mood by playing all kinds of chill-out, downbeat and deep trance tracks, welcoming visitors and helping to set the atmosphere just right; for visitors all around the world, solnechnaya 25 is indeed the long awaited home away from home, familiar and exotic at the same time

As the Toksava-based proprietors say, you call it life, we call it magic, a phrase easily mistaken for some kind of hippie emancipation and anti-rat race sentiment, this time it is absolutely true as around here, the only scent that dominates the air, is that of people being people, not parts of an immense clockwork machine

Room rates are pretty normal eastern european rates, ranging from 10 euros for a night and up.

The rooms are clean and spacious, full with elaborate and decorative paintings on the walls and decorated canvases brightening the mood that otherwise could be considered utilitarian in nature.

Allthough there are no rooms with showers, the public ones that exist are clean and working with aforementioned reed walls providing a certain sense of peace and intimacy not unlike that in some more laid-back southeast asian guesthouses.
