Essequibo Islands-West Demerara is a region in Guyana. It is home to the islands of Leguan, Wakenaam and a host of others, some of which are not inhabited. Parika is a busy spot on Sundays, and the kick off point for travels down the Essequibo River. The Guyanese Heritage Museum which is a hotel and museum of all things Guyanese is at Kastev.

Much of the area is protected by the WWF, and has been designated an area of special natural importance. However, it is believed that the Guyanese government are challenging this ruling in the hopes of opening the area to tourism.
