Eshowe is the oldest town of European settlement in Zululand. Good base to see the Zulu culture. Inland, cooler than Durban in summer.

Drive up the N2 from Durban, turn left at the Dokodweni Plaza on Route 66.

Take the 'Black' taxi from Durban Station to Eshowe - R40.

Take Greyhound to Melmoth, take a taxi from there.

It is possible to walk from end to end in the Town Centre, but generally you will need a car.

There is a museum complex next to the fort, with historical museums and a Craft Centre. Tours are run from the George Hotel / Zululand Backpackers further afield, mainly to zulu cultural events like weddings and comings of age.

Visit the museums. Tour. Drink beer (locally brewed) at the George Hotel. Fish.Play golf on Eshowe Hills, 18 hole course designed by Bob Grimsdel on the Eshowe Hills Golf Estate.

Crafts. Locally produced crafts especially pottery and beadwork available from the Museum complex.

Memory Lane Coffee shop in the Pick'n'Pay shopping centre offers wonderful cooking and a relaxing environment to learn more about this lovely town. Ask to see the coffee shop's copy of an old Zululand Times magazine which provides insight and experiences from the past. Memory Lane also has a separate icecream and milkshake cafe next door. There is also fast food in town, dinner at the hotel or the Sports Club.

Beer.Zululand Brewing Co. is producing some fine hand crafted beer. Chelmsford Porter, Jantoni Pale Ale, Zulu Blonde, Bull Horn Bitter, Assegai Lager and Ultimatum Pilsner. Situated at The George Hotel.
