Dan Chang is in Suphan Buri province.

Understand[edit]

Dan Chang is a town of approximately 15,000 inhabitants, in the north west of the province of Suphan Buri, Thailand.

It is set in a rural area which is predominantly sugar cane growing land. A large sugar factory is based approximately 10 km to the east of the town.

There is an agricultural college to the south of town.

There is a Google Map of the places listed below

Get in[edit]

Dan Chang is situated on route 333 between U Thong (to the south) and Ban Rai (to the north).

Busses from several locations arrive at the central bus station.

To catch the 69 from Bangkok, leave the BTS (sky train) at the Victory Monument station and follow the signs for the Victory Monument exit. You will be lead to a walkway above the streets that goes around a large roundabout / traffic island. Follow the walkway to get off at the other side of the roundabout (if you imagine the roundabout as a clock face and you entered at 6 o'clock, you are getting off at about 11 o'clock). Walk a short distance away from Victory Monument and to your left, under a road fly-over is a car park where the mini-busses set off from.

Get around[edit]

There is not really any local transportation system and even taxis (motorbikes and cars) are not readily available.

At the bus station there are a small team of motorbike taxis. It is best to get hold of their phone numbers if you need to be picked up from anywhere else as they do not drive about looking for business. Some hotels will have phone numbers to call but don't rely on it.

It is best to have your own transportation, be it a bicycle, moped or car. There are plenty of shops around town where you can buy a bicycle or motorbike - short term hiring is not a standard offering.

Attraction[edit]

  • Tham Weruwan: The cave houses a Buddha image in the Pa Lelai posture. In the temple compound, district official have set up

a bamboo garden in honour of Their Majesties where over 10 bamboo species are grown.

  • Krasiao Dam : This country’s longest earthen dam is built on Krasiao Stream in Tambon Dan Chang. Its reservoir, with maximum

water storage of 240 million cubic metres, is also a major fish-breeding site.

  • Phu Toei National Park : The park acquires a total area of 198,422 rai (79,368.8 acres). The lush forest with a lot of flora and fauna

is a major watershed of Suphan Buri and Kanchanaburi. The mountain range of Phu Toei is home of thousands of mountain pines and also the best viewing point. Attractions in the park can be divided into two groups, according to its units as follows

  • Namtok Taphoen Khi : The two-tier waterfall cascades all year round to nourish the forest and Karen village, which has settled there

for over 200 years. Lush forests allow naturalists to enjoy ecotourism and adventure.

Festival[edit]

Dan Chang Food Festival at Dan Chang District, Suphanburi on December

There are several festivals each year in Dan Chang. Most are held outside the municipal building on the main road heading east.

The biggest festival is in October to celebrate local farming where the locals are encouraged to "Eat fish, eat mushrooms".

Most of the festivals have OTOP stalls selling many things from shoes and mattresses to fine china and remote control toys. There is often very little haggling over prices as the OTOP prices are usually reasonable to start with.
