A main road, unpaved, runs to Cuamba from Nampula to the east and Mandimba (along the Malawi border) to the west. A train brings passengers from Lichinga and Nampula on a regular schedule.
Daily minibus service to Mandimba starts collecting passengers at 4AM and leaves when full (this can take hours). 3.5 hours to Mandimba.
Minibuses also wait for the train from Nampula (daily, except Mondays, arriving between 15:00-17:00) and quickly fill up with passengers to Mandimba, Lichinga and elsewhere. To Mandimba the realistic time of travel is about 2.5 hours.
Cuamba is small enough to travel around on foot. Bicycle taxis and local transport are also available, as is the train to travel in and out on. The closest airports are Nampula and Lichinga.
Several shops are available offering quality food, clothing, construction supplies and other goods. Prices are cheaper in Cuamba than further outlying areas like Lichinga, the province capital.
