Ciamis is a city in West Java.
Since it is located in major south route of Java island, it is pretty easy to go to Ciamis by car. There are many public transportation available through south route both from east java to west java and vice versa. If you prefer using a public shuttle bus, the easiest is using Cipaganti service. It is possible to reach Ciamis by train that goes through the south route. Please check the train schedule to choose the train that goes to Ciamis town. the train station (S7.32930 E108.35592) is located about 500m from the main road.
There are also small size public transportation which reach almost every corner of the town. These transportation are differentiated with route number, each route number serves a particular places. People can use Ojek (a motorbike with driver) to go to places outside the public transportation routes.
The town itself is pretty quiet, the business activities are not much. People usually come to the central park (Alun-alun) with their family to rest and enjoy the park. There are several tourist places outside Ciamis that worth to visit.
One of the possibilities of attraction is to visit or spend a night/two at local village such as Desa Jelat. They are offering experiences of village life along with the delicious traditional meals. Walking and biking tracks are available at the village, along with its scenery.
There are no special store for souvenirs in town selling traditional items. It is possible to find ordinary farmers hat, or bamboo matrasses but nothing special.
There are many small restaurants that sell local food, some of them are delicious. One of them (S7.32535 E108.35307) is located not far away from central park.
The two best hotel in town are Tiara Hotel (S7.32634 E108.33659) at jalan Sudirman and Priangan Hotel (S7.32535 E108.35916) at jalan Yos Sudarso. There are many smaller hotels and motels in town available. These lodging usually full during weekends by domestic tourist who wants to go to Pangandaran beach.
