Chautauqua County (New York)
Much of the Lake Erie Wine Country is located in Chautauqua County. This wine-growing area stretches into northwestern Pennsylvania. Twelve wineries produce a variety of beverages including ice wines, fruit wines, and specialty wines. Concord grapes have thrived in the Lake Erie microclimate for over a century along with Catawba and Niagara grapes. Grape growers in Chautauqua County produce approximately 65% of New York State’s total annual grape harvest including French-American hybrids like Vidal, Seyval, and Chancellor, and European vinifera varieties such as Merlot, Chardonnay, and Riesling.
