Buruanga is a municipality in the province of Aklan, Philippines.

Akeanons/Aklanons as the the locals are called are highly literate. English and Filipino is widely spoken and understood. Akeanon/Aklanon is the dialect spoken which is radically different from the rest of the Ilonggo-speaking provinces in the Panay Island. Ilonggo and Kinaray-A is also spoken and understood albeit by a huge minority.

There are two main ways to go to Buruanga, Aklan. Many airlines fly direct from Manila to Caticlan, Malay airport. There are approximately 7-8 flights daily. From Caticlan you can travel by car, bus, or boat to Buruanga. Alternatively, you can fly direct to the Kalibo Airport. There are flights that fly there once/twice a day. Kalibo Airport in Aklan now allows night landing. From Kalibo you can travel by car or bus to Buruanga.
By 2008, there will be a new airport terminal at Kalibo Airport to accommodate arriving passengers in the province brought by international chartered flights from Incheon, South Korea and Shanghai, China.
Asian Spirit, Air Philipines, Philippine Airlines, Cebu Pacific , Pacific Pearl, Southwest regularly fly to Kalibo. China Eastern will establish airlinks soon.

Vans or L3s as they are called, cost about 100 pesos per person from Buruanga to Kalibo and they take approximately 2 hours. Look for an air conditioned van (which might come at a slightly inflated price of 10 to 20 pesos more per person). The travel time from Caticlan to Kalibo takes 1 hour and 30 minutes, and from Buruanga to Kalibo it takes about 2 hours at most.

A Jeepney from Caticlan to Buruanga takes about 25 to 30 minutes and will cost you about 10-13 Pesos.
Shuttle Bus-Php will cost 100 pesos and up from the Terminal Airport at Kalibo.

Buruanga features its own Town Fiesta on May 8 and on June 12 is the Atiatihan Festival. Boracay, the world reknowned for its beautiful white beaches, is about 30 minutes away from Buruanga through the port of Caticlan. Buruanga is the former mother town of Boracay, Malay in Aklan.
The Ati-Atihan Festival is a feast held in honor of the Santo Niño held annually in January concluding on third Sunday, in the town of Kalibo, Aklan in the Philippines.
It is the wildest among Philippine fiestas and considered as the Mother of All Philippine festivals. Celebrants paint their faces with black soot and wear bright, outlandish costumes as they dance in revelry during the last three days of this two week-long festival. Catholics and non-Catholics alike observe this special day with processions, parades, dancing, and merrymaking.

Alcohol is cheap like everywhere in the Philippines, and during the alcohol-fueled days of the Atiatihan - it is very much readily available at supermarkets, convenience stores and corner stores.
Fruit juices are widely available and made fresh from the abundance and proximity of fruit-producing provinces including Aklan.
For some local brew, tuba, (fermented coconut wine) is popular amongst the locals (usually in far-flung barangays) and might be worth the taste if you are offered one.

Alegria Port and Fish Port. A ship leaves every Wednesday to San Jose Mindoro. The travel time usually takes 4 hours and costs about 600 pesos. You can also go to Caticlan Port, where it takes 20-30 minutes travel time from Buruanga.
