Has an excellent gift shop where you can purchase art pieces or gifts. Free, though donations are appreciated. edit
Children's Museum of South Dakota, 521 4th St, . Definitely a great time for the kids--lots of educational, musical, or artistic hands-on exhibits, and a play area outside with a huge animatronic Tyrannosaurus Rex.Adults & children $6. Children under one, free. edit
Climb the Campanile, On campus, along Medary Ave. SDSU's most recognizable landmark is the Coughlin Campanile. A nice activity is to climb the 179 steps up the campanile for some great views of Brookings. Views also are available from lower levels and there is no fee to enter. However, climbs must be made during daylight hours. Lighting within the tower is minimal. Entrance is from the south door. The key can be checked out at Tompkins Alumni Center across the street or the University Police Department across the street and a block north.Free. edit
McCrory Gardens, 631 22nd Ave, . Take a stroll through these beautiful gardens. There are different areas, like a rose garden, a woodland garden, and a rock garden, and they are all very pretty in the spring-fall months. There is also a visitor center which can be reserved for events. It's a very popular place for weddings.Free. edit
Dakota Nature Park, (the northwest corner of 22nd Avenue and 32nd Street South). This park was the city dump many years back, but it has since been capped and re-developed to become a haven for nature lovers. There are numerous biking/running/hiking trails throughout the park, and ponds for fishing, kayaking, or canoeing. A very beautiful area. An Outdoor Adventure Center and a Visitor Center are currently being constructed there as well.Free. edit
There are multiple chain restaurants in Brookings, including an Applebee's, a Whiskey Creek, a Perkins, and multiple fast food restaurants. There are also come great options for family-owned restaurants or ones unique to Brookings.
