Boonville [1] is a small town in Missouri, a state of the United States of America. It is notable as the starting point of the Santa Fe Trail, parts of which are preserved as a unit of the United States National Parks system [2]. - The Santa Fe Trail did not start in Boonville proper, but rather at the now-abandoned site of Franklin near town. Markers commemorate the site. See also Boone's Lick State Historic Site, preserving a salt lick that was important to Santa Fe Trail travelers.
