Bokeo Nature Reserve is mostly primary monsoon dry desiduous forest, but also contains some lowland slash-and-burn agriculture.

The reserve is one of the last remaining habitats of the black crested gibbon. Once thought extinct, it is now known that up to 400 individuals live in this forest.

The only way to access Bokeo Nature Reserve is with The Gibbon Experience[1] conservation project run by Societe Animo in Huay Xai.
