It is possible to travel to Bayan-Ulgii from Kazakhstan. There is a 36 hour bus that connects Olgii (or more accurately, the city of Tsagaannuur -- 70 km northwest -- with Astana, Kazakhstan. The bus costs 8000 KZT (apprx. $50, as of July 2009) and passes through the beautiful Altai Krai, Russia.
- From the city of Govĭ-Altai, Mongolia it is possible to take a regular city bus (though they are regularly full) or a regular marshrutka. Price is approximately 25,000 Tugrik per person.
- Regular flights connect Olgii with Ulaanbaatar operated by Eznis Airways. A one-way flight from UB to Olgii costs approximately $300USD (as of July 2009), though deals may be found on return flights and special seasons.

- Altai Tavan Bogd National Park - breathtaking scenery, and containing a glacier and three lakes. The park is about four hours from the provincial capital of Olgiy.

- The variety of fresh and inexpensive Mongolian eateries continues to Olgii. There are many buz' stalls in the city, as well as inexpensive Kazakh restaurants.

Though Olgii is nominally a Muslim country, one can find beer, wine and a variety of alcoholic beverages in any produce store. However, as elsewhere in Mongolia, public consumption of alcohol is seen as taboo.

Theft of valuables is a rare, but present danger in Mongolia. However, violent crime is very rare.
