Barneveld
From Wikitravel
Barneveld is a town in Gelderland, located in a region of woods and heath, southeast of Amersfoort.
Barneveld has become famous in the Netherlands for poultry farming and egg production and has a breed of chicken, the Barnevelder, named after it.
A notable event in the history of Barneveld is the story of Jan van Schaffelaar, a cavalry commander in the Hook and Cod wars who jumped off the church tower in 1482 in order to save the lives of his men.
[edit] Get in
[edit] By train
Barneveld can be reached by train in two directions: from Amersfoort Central Station and from Ede-Wageningen. Intercity trains do not stop at Barneveld. The main station is about 5 minutes walk from the village center.
[edit] By car
Barneveld is not signposted until you are near it: from most directions you will need to first follow the signs for Zwolle or Amersfoort. It is easy to park a car in Barneveld.
[edit] By bus
Busses also run from Amersfoort Central Station, however since you are already at the train station, a train would be much more effective.
