The Bangalore Rural district was split from the urban district of Bangalore in 1986.

[edit] About Mekedatu

Mekedatu (aka. Sangama) is a very well known place for people in and around Bangalore. Mekedatu is a kannada (a south Indian language) name meaning - meke="Goat" and datu="to cross". It is believed that Goat has crossed this narrow valley while it was being chased.

Sangama and Mekedatu are two different places, as it is located next to each other, people do call this as Mekedatu/sangama.

  • Chunchi Falls. These are beautiful waterfalls located about 90kms south of the City.
  • Mekedatu. A place where the waters of the Cauvery River are squeezed through a narrow ravine. It is located about 98kms south of the city. NB: There are no restaurants in the area.
