Bandarawela
Bandarawela is a city in Sri Lanka. [edit] UnderstandBandarawela sits 1200m above sea level and hence benefits from having a cooler, less humid climate making it the perfect place to base yourself while exploring Sri Lanka's Hill Country. Staying in Bandarawela is staying in real Sri Lanka, there are hardly any tourists and it has the unpretentious air of a busy market town. Being at the heart of Uva province the surrounding hills are cloaked in tea bushes and the town exists to support this industry amongst others. With the tea plating history comes colonial heritage, the Bandarawela Hotel is one of the best colonial hotels on the island and the post office and Cargills supermarket, in which the teak counters still survive, both have colonial roots. Despite being a market town Bandarawela is extremely diverse; it has a mixed population and is home to a Buddhist temple, a Hindu kovil, a Catholic church and a Mosque which coexist perfectly.
