[edit] Get in
[edit] By plane
There are daily flights to Bacau airport [1] from Bucharest and Timisoara and two times a week from Rome, Turin, Verona and Suceava.
[edit] By train
It is well connected by train with Bucharest, Brasov, Suceava, Iasi, Constanta. The train station is 2.5 kilometers close to the city center, you can go walking, by Bus or by Taxi (0.4 EUR/km).
A train ticket from Bucharest to Bacau costs around 15 euros when using the most expensive and luxurious option, the inter-city called Sageata Albastra (Blue Arrow).
Visit official site of Romanian National Rail Transportation to check different connections between Bacau and the other cities.
[edit] By car
There are a couple of possibilities to reach Bacau from all over the country on national roads. Recently these roads have been improved and are in very good condition.
To reach Bacau from Bucharest, there are 290 kilometers on E85 - express way, which usually takes 3 hours by car. If you come from Bucharest, I recommend to exit via Colentina boulevard, head to Urziceni and cross Buzau and Focsani.
Also, to reach Bacau you can use very good roads from Brasov(E574), Iasi, Vaslui , Botosani.
[edit] Get around
There are two basic ways of getting around the city : personal vehicle and public transport-which comprises mostly of buses.
[edit] By bus
The linear structure of the city makes it virtually impossible to get lost, and local transport to be fast and reliable. A normal one-way ticket will set you back 1/2 euros (1.7 RON). The main bus lines are : 3, 17, 18 and 22, of which only the 22 has a different route : from the south entrance in the city (from Bucharest) where all the hypermarkets are towards Arena Mall. The rest have the same starting point, but go towards the train station (following various - yet close - routes)
[edit] By car
If you go by car you'll find and excellent infrastructure ,but not so many parking spaces. Parking is free almost everywhere in the city. The town has an aproximate length (from North to South) of about 20 km, but somewhat many stoplights on that route. There is an alternative route, a detour - make a left turn just before Narcisa Bridge (about 4 km from the Metro hypermarket, coming from the south) and the detour will take lead you round the city (with a beautiful view of it) to the road to Transylvania (left turn about half the way) or to continue your journey north - from the outskirts. If you want to go to Roman or further on to Suceava or Iasi, you have to go through the city centre, and over Serbanesti Bridge over the Bistrita River.
