The pump house was taken up in 1906 and pumping started in 1907. It consisted of eight double-cylinder 160 BHP diesel engines, each driving 39 inch centrifugal pump and free from breakdowns. Owing to the First World War (1914-18) and consequent difficulty in getting spare parts for the pumping plant, further extension of irrigation in 1918 was discouraged and thus it was limited to irrigate barely 32,000 acres as against the targeted 50,000 acres. It constructed in early 1930s to irrigate the fertile agriculture lands in Diviseema, their week-end spot by spending their evenings on the bridge-cum-irrigation project.
One of the Engineering marvels -- Campbell Aqueduct -- is attracting locals and tourists from all over the country to witness its scenic beauty during the rainy season People living adjacent to the aqueduct, otherwise a road-bridge, act as guides to the visitors, explaining tales of how the Krishna river splits into two channels before it reaches the aqueduct
